Mission accomplished!

By all accounts, and comments, made both verbally on the day, later, and in messages sent via this website, thankyou - much appreciated, the day was a great success, was enjoyed by all, and should now restored as an annual event.  Close to 170 people registered and participated in the event ranging from the serious to the not so, and from the very young to the not so.  The oldest pair, not necessarily the slowest, at 72, completed the 5 mile course! Thankfully, all particpants completed their chosen course without serious mishap or injury.  Good work was done by the marshals to ensure peoples' safety was paramount.

For the 5 mile event the results were:

First adult male: Sean Taylor, 29min. 13 sec.

First adult female: Ann Jones, 32min. 52sec.

First under 16: David Morgan, 36min. 55sec.

Regarding the 3 mile event, sincere apologies to all who took part, since runners on this course were not timed. Actually it was assumed that these participants were truly out for a 'Fun Run' thus no plan had been made to time them.  In hind site this was a great mistake since it is now realised that many of these participants were no less committed, and competitive, than those running the 5 mile course. This oversight will definetly be corrected for future events, and credit awarded appropriately.

The organisers would like to express their appreciation and thanks to all who turned out on the day: the runners, walkers, spectators, marshals, helpers on the tea/coffee stall, the BBQ, the ice cream stall, the event timing crew, the St.John's Ambulance crew, definetly the bar staff, and all other helpers who pitched in on the day. Special thanks to Jan, Roger, Liz, and Ron for setting up and running the watering stations, and special thanks also to the sponsors:

Goetre Community Council, The Spar Shop Goytre, The Post Office Goytre, A.J.Jones Motors Goytre, Goytre Fish Bar (Tandoori), and Phil Jones Fruit & Veg.  Thanks also to Ralf Wright (Wright signs) for making the fantastic Mile Marker boards, and the event advertising board used on the park fence (opposite pub).
